Production of xenon-135 from isotopically enriched xenon-134 and xenon-136 targets

چکیده
Atmospheric radioxenon analyses conducted under the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) necessitates collection of air samples to quantify 135Xe, an indicator for nuclear explosions and reactor operations. Analytical instrument calibration these requires high quality, monoisotopic reference standards that are typically short lived, therefore must be produced shipped promptly monitoring stations worldwide. The work described here outlines two methods produce highly enriched 135Xe by irradiating stable targets (1) neutron capture (n, ɣ) on 134Xe (2) energy photon irradiation (ɣ, n) 136Xe. were prepared electromagnetic isotope separation natural xenon. Results from each process compared yield purity.

Allende meteorite: Isotopically anomalous xenon is accompanied by normal osmium.
The (184)Os/(190)Os ratio of six Allende meteorite samples was determined by neutron activation analysis. Four chromite concentrates gave a ratio differing from the terrestrial ratio by only -0.1 +/- 0.4%, although they contained highly anomalous xenon enriched by up to 67% in (124)Xe and 93% in (136)Xe. In view of this result and the normal isotopic composition of carbon and oxygen in these fr...
متن کاملPreparation of Neutron-activated Xenon for Liquid Xenon Detector Calibration
We report the preparation of neutron-activated xenon for the calibration of liquid xenon (LXe) detectors. Gamma rays from the decay of xenon metastable states, produced by fast neutron activation, were detected and their activities measured in a LXe scintillation detector. Following a five-day activation of natural xenon gas with a Cf (4× 10 n/s) source, the activities of two gamma ray lines at...

The vapor-liquid equilibrium of binary mixtures of xenon + SF6 has been measured at nine temperatures from 235.34 to 295.79 K and pressures up to 6.5 MPa. The mixture critical line is found to be continuous between the critical points of the pure components, and hence, the system can be classified as type I phase behavior in the scheme of van Konynenburg and Scott. The excess Gibbs free energie...
متن کاملXenon: recent developments.
Xenon is the Greek word for stranger. The gas was discovered by Ramsay and Travers in 1898 in the residue left after evaporating liquid air components. It was originally labelled, with others, an inert gas but after discovery of some compounds this group was renamed the noble gases in 1962. It is the heaviest stable gas in this group and the only one which is anaesthetic under normobaric condit...
